Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount of Sydney, British Whig statesman. Lord of the Treasury (1765), Speaker of the House of Commons (1766), and member of the Privy Council (1767), Secretary of State for Home Affairs, War, and the Colonies (1782). Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood (b. 12 December 1724, Butleigh, England–d. 27 January 1816. London, England) was an officer in the British Royal Navy. The son of Samuel Hood, a vicar, he entered the Royal Navy in 1741 and served on Ludlow. He became a lieutenant in 1746 and was commander of Jamaica in 1754.
